Never thought it would end this way...
I don’t think there’s anything sadder than when two people are meant to be together and something intervenes.

There comes a certain time when you have to put false hope behind you

Do or do not; there is no try

A new year

Think it’s time to start writing and blogging more often.

So went for my first flight yesterday. Takeoff was a lot easier than I expected but the landing was a little scary. Hard to believe that this little plane can fly.

But the views from 6,500 feet are amazing. I could see for miles and miles. It was a relatively clear day but even so you feel like a little ship up there with the air moving one left and right.

Love this image.  Most people “miss it” the first time around.

Shit happens and then you die

She put him out like the burnin’ end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin’ to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night

1st Chorus
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I’ll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

(Sing lullaby)

The rumors flew but nobody know how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night

2nd Chorus
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

(Sing lullaby)

Local Elections or Politician will be politicians

So today was the local election day and it has been interesting to observe the thoughts, words and opinions of people.

They often say that the two things one should never discuss are religion and politics. There may be something to that.

Observing all around it becomes very clear that opinions are like assholes…everyone has one.  It is hardly surprising that in all likelihood the ANC will win another landslide election.  Their failure in terms of service delivery over the last 16 years seems to make very little difference to the bulk of the voters.  The steady decline of SA by almost any metric again does little to sway the voters.

What has become very clear is that politicians do what politicians have always done.  Look after themselves.  There was a minor uproar on Twitter over SPAM SMS messages sent out late at night.  Helen Zille’s response is that future generations will thank them for this.  My response is fuck that.  The end doesn’t justify the means and that holds true for the DA, the ANC and anyone else.
